INTRODUCTION -Andhra Pradesh (Combined State)

Andhra Pradesh is a fifth populous state in India with a population of 8,62,10,007, which is 7.43% of the countries population. It is fourth largest state with an area of 2,75,045 Sq. Kms constituting 8.37% of the country’s area. It is fifth most populous state in the country, of this the rural population is 55,401,067. Literacy rate in the State is 60.47 per cent (2001census) which is a little below the national average of 64.38 percent (2001census). There are 978 females for every 1000 males.

When India became independent, the Telugu speaking population was distributed in bout 20 districts. 9 of them in the Nizam’s Domination and 11 in the Presidency so Madras so as to include predominantly Telugu speaking areas, Kurnool as its capital in response to the desire of the Telugu speaking people.   On November 1st, 1956, according to the recommendations of the State reorganization Commission, Andhra Pradesh was formed, by the addition of nine districts, which were formerly in the Nizam’s Domination. Later on more new districts were carved out making 23 districts in the State as whole. Hyderabad which is presently known as the technological hub of the country is the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh echoes the aura of antiquity through every little aspect of it. The state is vibrant with historical monuments which may be considered as an embodiment of architectural wonder. It has a number of temples, mosques, palaces and is rich in arts, crafts, dance and literature. The stretches of beaches that are present in the state have increased the attractiveness of Andhra Pradesh immensely. Andhra Pradesh is described as the Rice Bowl of India and is also one of the important tourist sites.
